About Earthquakes in Iceland

Iceland sits on the boundary between two major tectonic plates — the North American and Eurasian plates. This causes significant seismic activity, particularly along the volcanic zone and in the South Iceland Lowlands.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office operates the SIL seismic network, detecting all earthquakes in real time.
